January 2, 2013 This Just Happened
I put out a request on my Facebook page last night asking or ideas since I had written – and discarded – a few post ideas. I got one lousy idea and you’re now going to have to red a post about it.
I like quiche. Have for some time now. While living on Hilton Head, we’d go to lunch once a week or so to a place called Red Fish. They had a lunch option for quiche and half a sandwich or soup or a salad. I almost always had the quiche and soup. Mind you, this is in the South Carolina low country – or as you at know it, land of the meat and 3 barbeque platter. It’s also hot as snot.
My “friends” at work would rib me mercilessly about my order every time. They’d be chowing down on heavier, though still healthy, fare and I’m there with them, at an outside table in the Carolina sun, eating hot soup and quiche. I became known as – watch out for the originality here – quiche boy. Didn’t bother me in the slightest. I was eating healthier, lighter, wasn’t all greased up…and I loved that quiche.
Didn’t matter what kind it was, either. Veggie, sausage, mushroom, ALL OF THEM. Southwestern, traditional, organic. Bring. Them. On.
So why on earth am I telling you this? Because the one comment I got for a post idea was to justify to my friend Joe Mezera why my affinity for quiche is not grounds for him to lose respect for my dietary choices.
Exhibit A: It’s a good breakfast food – eggs, sausage, spinach, mushrooms – who doesn’t make omelets with all of those ingredients?
Exhibit B: It’s a good lunch food – I feel like a sandwich and some…some…some…chips? Trash. Fries? Bad news. Quiche? Perfect. Filling, yet not greasy or prepackaged or processed.
Exhibit C: It’s a good dinner food. Man, I had a big lunch today. I’d like something not too heavy and a salad for dinner tonight. PB&J? Total standby but not what I’m in the mood for. Nothing too carb-heavy…I know: quiche!
See, it’s as easy as pie (couldn’t resist). Quiche is an awesome food. So when I came home from work tonight, my lovely wife had prepared for me a wonderful sausage, egg, spinach, cheese, and pear…quiche!
You know you want some.
